Saufley Field is the odd one out in the NAS Pensacola complex: a tenant annex about ten miles north of the main base with no family housing of its own and no universal check-in desk. So the on-base half of this decision means a NAS Pensacola Homes house at NAS Pensacola or Corry Station, run by Balfour Beatty Communities, and a daily drive back up to Saufley; the off-base half means Bellview, Myrtle Grove, Beulah or Cantonment with FL064 BAH in your pay. Here is how I frame it for Saufley clients.
How on-base housing works for a Saufley Field assignment
Saufley has no family housing of its own. Saufley-assigned families apply to NAS Pensacola Homes, the privatized community operated by Balfour Beatty Communities, or live off base. The government office is the NAS Pensacola Housing Service Center, 1581 Duncan Road, Building 735, Pensacola, FL 32508, 850-452-5168, [email protected]; it, household goods, legal, lodging and the Fleet and Family Support Center are not physically on Saufley Field, so confirm the location and your eligibility before each trip.
The verified directory lists no unaccompanied-housing desk at Saufley itself; unaccompanied members get their billeting through the gaining command. In a NAS Pensacola Homes house your BAH is paid to the partner as rent, with maintenance included and utilities billed under the Navy's Resident Energy Conservation Program (RECP). Office details are from public sources checked September 7, 2026.
Applying from Saufley: two destinations, one office
Your gaining unit and sponsor give you the Saufley building, gate and after-hours number; the housing conversation runs separately through 850-452-5168. Neither Balfour Beatty nor the Housing Service Center publishes wait times, and the list moves with bedroom count, pay grade and season. Apply the day you have orders, ask which NAS Pensacola Homes neighborhood you would actually be offered and route it to Saufley before you accept, and keep a Bellview or Beulah backup. If you cannot be placed, you keep full BAH off base.
The FL064 BAH trade for Saufley permanent party
Saufley shares the FL064 (Pensacola, FL) area, planning ZIP 32509. Saufley orders skew toward permanent party, so these are the grades I model most:

A student label or pay grade alone does not set a purchase price. On base, the figure above is what you trade for the house plus a longer daily route; off base it has to cover the whole payment for a Bellview, Beulah or Cantonment address, including Escambia County taxes, wind insurance and flood coverage where the parcel needs it. Finance confirms the duty-station ZIP and rate protection; the 2026 BAH page has every grade.
When NAS Pensacola Homes makes sense for Saufley
- You already have a Corry or NAS Pensacola connection. A spouse assigned to the main base or a child in the on-base CDC can outweigh the drive north to Saufley.
- Short or uncertain orders. If the follow-on is unsettled, a partner-maintained house with no exit costs beats a purchase you may have to sell early.
- Junior enlisted on FL064 pay. At E-1 to E-4 ($1,794 or $1,521 a month) the capped utilities and zero repair exposure matter.
When off base wins at Saufley Field
- The commute. The Bellview and Myrtle Grove guide states 5-10 minutes to Saufley and the Beulah guide 12-15 minutes; a NAS Pensacola Homes house means driving back up past both every day.
- Stable three-year permanent-party rotations. Saufley's tenant commands run a steady tempo, which is the profile where a VA purchase has time to work.
- Schools. Beulah's A-rated cluster and the Tate High feeders in Cantonment are off-base decisions.
- Space and price. Bellview and Myrtle Grove carry the lowest median list prices in the metro per their guide; Beulah and Cantonment carry the newer construction and larger lots.

- E-5 to E-7 on three-year orders: the VA purchase in Bellview and Myrtle Grove (5-10 min) or Beulah (12-15 min), tested against $1,863 to $2,256 with dependents and the full payment.
- Senior enlisted and officers: schools decide it; Beulah and Cantonment first, Pace if Santa Rosa County is the goal.
- Anyone whose orders say NETPDC: confirm whether your desk is at Saufley or at 130 West Avenue on NAS main before you route a single showing.
- Unaccompanied members: the command assigns billeting; ask the sponsor where it actually is.

- Bellview: Bellview Elementary (A) → Bellview Middle (C) → Pine Forest High (B+, arts magnet)
- Cantonment: Molino Park Elementary (A) → Jay Middle (B) → Tate High (B+, NJROTC). Strong Escambia cluster

- Pace (Santa Rosa): S.S. Dixon Intermediate (B) → Pace High (A). Upgrade feeder for families willing to commute
Military Family Lifestyle: On-Base vs Off-Base at Saufley Field
- Saufley has no standalone on-base housing. Personnel work the Corry / NASP housing pool or go off-base.
- Mission is cryptology / NIOC / DLI / CIWT: stable tempo, predictable family life, low deployment rate for many billets.
- Off-base in Bellview or Myrtle Grove: older housing stock, good value, 5-8 min commute. Easiest quality-of-life trade.
- Cantonment and Pace are the move if school quality is top priority, worth the 15-30 min commute for Tate or Pace High feeders.

Are there unaccompanied barracks at Saufley?
The September 2026 directory lists no unaccompanied-housing desk at Saufley Field itself. Unaccompanied members get their billeting assignment through the gaining command; the NATTC desk at 905 East Avenue (850-452-7076) serves NATTC students at NAS Pensacola, not Saufley tenants. Ask your sponsor where your billeting is before you travel. Family housing is off base or through NAS Pensacola Homes.
Can I apply to NAS Pensacola Homes before I arrive at Saufley?
Yes. Apply through the Housing Service Center as soon as orders are signed, which my PCS checklist puts at the 60-day mark with lender preapproval, and confirm move-in or lodging about seven days out. Ask which neighborhood you would be offered and route it to 6490 Saufley Field Road first.
Is Saufley a good base for first-time buyers?
Very good. Stable tempo, predictable 3+ year permanent-party rotations, and Bellview / Cantonment pricing in reach for E-5 through E-7 BAH. Most of my first-time military buyer clients at Saufley close in Cantonment or Pace.
Is my desk actually at Saufley Field?
Check before you route a house hunt. A Saufley Field assignment and an office on Saufley Street at NAS Pensacola are different places, and NETPDC’s current contact page lists 130 West Avenue, Building 603, Suite A on NAS main while another official page still lists Saufley Field. Your sponsor names the building and the authorized gate.
